I think it's hard to be "too" critical of Muller since he still hasn't had a training camp and a full season. I am critical that he could stop the bleeding when the Canes were in a complete free fall though. You are dead on with the special teams thing. The Canes haven't had a good power play since they wore the Whale sweaters.

I'm a little late to the party, as life got in the way, but i've got a couple thoughts!
I don't buy the popular notion that big stay-at-home SLOW D-men are an ASSET!
If you can find big fast D... then i'm all for that, otherwise mobility should be more important than size! Our defense was pretty good prior to Wardo's injury, and even after...til we had Pits, Faulk, and others missing games (AND Don't forget missed defensive responsibilities of the forwards shouldn't be ignored)!! TEAM D??
Coaching of the defense seems to be lacking as much as poor D!
Also, Allen (LAST YEAR) had some deficiencies (lack of speed??) letting his man free to get good shots/ score!
Semin was very responsible in his own end...he's a very complete player, and if we had a couple more like him we'd be in FAT CITY!
2nd line (especially Skinner) didn't play good D...probably why J Staal's +/- was so BAD!
